Healthy Eating Tips for a Guilt-Free Diwali

Diwali is just around the corner, and so is the time to devour your favorite sweets and snacks. There is no way possible to turn your back on these delicacies, and we wouldn’t advise you to do that either. Enjoy the festival to your heart’s content.

However, if you are worried about your health, then we are here to help you out. Follow these tips from Addlife to enjoy Diwali food items without feeling guilty.

Healthy Eating Tips for a Healthy Diwali

Instead of eating sugar-free sweets that are loaded with unhealthy sweeteners, opt for homemade traditional sweets made with khand, jaggery, mishri, etc. They are gut-friendly and are better for digestion.

  • Don’t Eat Out of a Packet

Deep-fried homemade savories are not bad. However, packaged and ready-to-eat foods can definitely impact your health adversely as they are loaded with extra sodium. Therefore, try to eat homemade Diwali snacks made with healthy oils and unrefined sugar, jaggery or honey.

Take all the sweets and snacks in moderate quantities and try to be fully attentive to the food when eating. Chew well and eat your food slowly. It will help prevent overeating, especially during the festival season.

  • Eat Diwali Foods During Day

If possible, try to keep your Diwali party during lunchtime and eat your Diwali sweets and snacks from 10 am to 4 pm. Your body will digest it better.

  • Kickstart Your Day With Lukewarm Water

Begin your day with a glass of lukewarm water or saunf and jeera water to prevent gas and bloating. You can also add ajwain to your water for added benefits.

Morning rituals are important. If you wish to know more about healthy morning habits, read our blog, “Healthy Morning Habits That Everyone Should Follow”.

  • Take Your Meals and Snacks on Time

Do not skip lunch to eat a heavy meal at night. In fact, make your lunch the largest meal of the day to boost digestion and prevent overeating at the party. You should also eat some protein-rich evening snacks, like Bhuna Chana, Dhokla, etc., if you have a Diwali party during the night.

Drinking water during the festive season is extremely important to boost digestion, metabolism, and overall health. Apart from water, you should also take other fluids like soups, lime water, coconut water, and herbal teas. Herbal teas, such as cumin, coriander, and fennel tea, are especially beneficial because they help prevent gas and bloating.
