A Lake Zurich person who operated a property overall health care corporation was sentenced to a calendar year in prison after pleading responsible to defrauding Medicare.
Henry Smilie, 61, billed Medicare for nearly $2 million in wrong statements from 2012 to 2014, federal prosecutors said.
At minimum $1.2 million of those statements were being paid to Smilie’s previous organization, Residence Medical doctor Providers LLC, in accordance to court docket data.
“The wrong promises pertained to ‘care plan oversight’ companies that have been either not rendered or concerned therapy that was far much less intricate than portrayed in the claims submitted by Smilie’s enterprise to Medicare,” prosecutors said Tuesday immediately after the sentence was handed down.
Smilie also was requested to repay Medicare the $1.2 million his company obtained from the fake promises.
